When it comes to off page SEO there are many strategies to improving your blog so that it gets more search traffic. Getting random search traffic is actually easy to do as long as you check Google trends and then posts about trending low competition keywords but if you want to get relevant search traffic from people who are looking for the content you post about it gets more tricky.

To gain relevant traffic you have to gain page authority for keywords that are relevant to your blog. Simply put if you post about cats you want to build authority for say...keywords like cats, kittens, feline cat hair, litter box and so on. Just an ex. but I hope you get the point.

One way to build authority is to have keyword rich text links pointing to your home page.

One of my blogs is a giveaway blog so I work to have the keywords; online giveaways, giveaways and sweepstakes, giveaway blogs, sweeps and a few other keywords people use when searching for giveaways or sweepstakes to point to my home page.

Here is an example of two links pointing to my giveaway blog

(1.) http://giveawaygator.com/

(2.) Go here to read my Sweepstakes and Giveaway Blog

The first is a hyperlink but it gains me nothing other than a back link. The second is anchor text and provides me with a back link but also tells the search bots something about my blog.

See search bots are dumb they need to constantly learn new stuff so they crawl the internet for random information but when they do learn something the log the info and use it for future reference..

Think of a search bot walking in the park. The bot finds an apple on the ground and stuck on the apple is a map that points to a tree. The bot logically assumes that the tree the map is pointing to is a apple tree so, next time it needs to find apples where will it go? The apple tree right

Of all the trees in the park the bot knows what tree to go to for apples. Anchor text is much the same thing.

If a bot finds a link to your blog and your link tells it something about your blog it will remember it. If the bot finds a link to your blog with the keyword Apple it will naturally assume that your blog talks about apples and next time it needs to find info on apples it will know where to go or...where to send people who are looking for info on apples.

Having anchor text all over the web pointing to your blog with relevant keywords gives your blog authority for those keywords and if you have the most authority your blog will be at the top of search results for those keywords and that will drastically increase the traffic to your blog but not just any traffic..relevant traffic.
